I've not tried to build my own ROM (there's already so many cooks as it is), but have a couple of handy little scripts which help the flashing process. it copies all installed apps from /system/app and the apps local DB's in /system/data to a backup area which are then copied straight back on after flash is complete.

Have you played much with making a custom ROM? As in, hacking some of the source and getting only the stuff you want in there?

Definitely gonna have to look at Advanced Task Manager and SetCPU. Anything for undervolting? :P

They should be all free except for Advanced Task Manager, and there are free alternatives to that as well. definitely though the combination of Screebl and Locale I think has been the best thing that I rely on all the time.

I firmly believe that Locale should be the defacto standard (maybe included in Android itself!?) and any apps which drain battery life or something should publish plugins for it. I'd love to get in a situation where I could turn off say twitter updates at work (to cut down on time wastage or turn down the frequency of gmail sync if the battery was running flat, etc etc.

I like to keep my phone as clear as possible too actually, the less crap, the better!

About the blog, yes I know I've got some fixing to do, its very rough around the edges, I've just not found the time yet!

-k :P

Yo, which of those apps are free, and what do the ones that aren't free cost? There's some good stuff in there that I'll probably try out.

Have to disagree on the chomp sms stuff though - I really like the base Android sms client. I've not used Chomp or the iphone one extensively, but from the short play I had on a mate's iphone, it looks all shitty and cutesy without much benefit.

Mind you, since I don't use any sort of apps2SD, I try and keep my setup as lean as possible to keep things running smoothly. I'm looking forward to upgrading from the G1!

Also the blog seems to have some formatting issues on IE7. There's some text overlayed on the blog post - I think it might be from your footer or something?

-H.
